The post bellow is from BigDadGib. His blog is growing to be one of my favorites. Stop by sometime to get a great read.
A woman was asked by a coworker,”What is it like to be a Christian?”
The coworker replied, “It is like being a pumpkin.”
God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you.
Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed.
Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.”
This was passed on to me by another pumpkin in my pumpkin patch.

Thank you for the kind words.
From one blue collar dude to another, it's good to be a pumpkin.

Just some friendly advice:
It's "What's" (as in "What is") and "Christian". You ought to fix it then delete this comment.
Maybe, after I get some Pepto-Bismol, I'll tell you what I think of that metaphor.
Spanish
Nah I won't delete that comment. It is not bad. I don't mind calling me out on a mistake it is just the manner at which some people do that it makes it wrong.
Really that hard to digest?
Oh, my god, yes. (figure of speech - old habits die hard.)
It was so sickeningly saccharine, in the sense of being artificially sweet. It reminds me of Christian music, which suffers from the same problem.
Let's get gritty.
"Christianity is like a pumpkin. Hollow inside, with an indigestible outer shell. The only way to make it palatable is to cut a smiling face on it, scoop out the insides and turn it into pie. Otherwise it just rots on your doorstep."
Does that kind of stuff really help you retain your faith? It would send me screaming out the church door.
Well ,while it is not the prettiest picture to be painted it is accurate. We believe that we are sinful and evil. God rips all of that out and creates a new life. Now this is not a physical life but a new spirit that is pure.
Help to retain it(my faith)...I would say no to that. Help to understand it, yes. It really is not a process to fear. I can see your point on it though.
The process that is gone through for new life is not a pretty picture. Behind the scenes there is alot of nasty ,vile looking events that take place like the one described here.It is just brutally honest. A process that is needed to follow God. The first step is submission to allow God to show you how messed up you(not shooting in your direction) really are. Then He removes it.
To use a metaphor to help define a situation or circumstance is ancient in origin. Jesus used many, many parables to convey His meaning, His truth and His wisdom. Please, do not miss the forest because of one tree.
I have been changed.
I have a new Light in my heart.
I am a Christian Pumpkin.
His Word keeps me from rotting because it is The Living Water.
Yes Yes. I particularly enjoyed this writing because it cover all the bases in full. It is a beautiful thing what God does with us. The part that is vile is the parts that have to be removed from us. Trust that I didn't miss the beauty that comes from this story.
Believe me I know that the process is beautiful and shows nothing but grace and love. My only point was there is alot of sin in us that has to be cut away. It is sickening once we see the sin we live in.
